So this morning was my first ride in a month, for those of you who dont know or didn't see any of my threads i was having speed issues.
For 2 weeks my speed was decreasing and by the end of that 2 weeks i was hitting around 5-10 mph i actually got off and walked it home because it was too slow.
I reached out to MA for help and got a lot of good suggestions and even an offer to look at it (which i never took up the offer but i still owe you a beer for offering)
Luckily my mother is dating a mechanic so he said he would look at it, which he did and he came to the conclusion it was a carburetor problem and said he would take it apart and clean it.
he had it for a week and finally brought it back and put it on....and i hit a top speed of about 15-20mph better but not best.
he didn't really know much about mopeds came up with some theory about blow-back then i told him(with info from MA Thanks!) that blow back was normal so he was stumped, i started to think maybe i needed new piston rings but with one more theory to try i didn't want to buy a new piston and rings just yet.
The muffler! i wanted with some research to see if this simple device as the issue so i pulled it off last night and i could see with out a doubt that the silencer core was clogged, so i drilled out and cleaned the holes and made a couple of new ones(Vlado's suggestion from another thread) cleaned all the parts with oven cleaner and slapped all back on.
I went for a test ride and hit off awesomely so i knew i could ride it to work today so let me tell you how that went; I took off this morning and first thing i noticed how much faster it took off once i was on open road i WOT and i hit top speed quicker and it was faster than usual too think i hit just below 40 maybe 37-38 mph, my take off from the lights were much quicker with a pedal or 2 i was at top speed so high end and low end all very much better in performance.
also i painted the rear rim yellow to match the front so that added another 5mph i just need to get an updated pic
So in conclusion to this tldr tale i implore you this week end clean out your muffler and blast all summer, i for one can not wait for the next local area ride. so thanks for the help and later....
